Short definition

Multisensory stimulation is an approach that offers controlled stimuli to several senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell) to promote comfort, attention, relaxation or interaction.

In plain language

It uses lights, sounds, textures, scents or music, adjusted to the person. It is used with people with dementia, intellectual disability or autism spectrum disorder, among others. It may take place in a dedicated room, such as a Snoezelen room, or with materials brought to the person.
