Why RVer?

We are not the most expensive on the market, but we do not chase the cheapest either. Our focus is quality: real scenes in 8K or more, at 60 Mbps or more, never cutting image quality to fit more in.

  • Built for healthcare

RVer is not a leisure app. It is used with people who have clinical conditions, and they are who we design the app, the content and the headset set-up for.

  • Verified videos

Every scene is reviewed by independent healthcare teams. Anything that does not work for the people who watch it is removed or reshot.

  • A service that grows with you

Close to made to measure for each institution, which is what the modules are for. Not a one-size-fits-all product left to work in your case or not.

  • Built with our clients

We work every day with the institutions that use RVer, and what they tell us is how RVer gets better.

This is RVer.And this is why it is not the cheapest.

Headset

Included

The headsets are part of the service: they belong to RVer, arrive set up and we look after them.

2 h 40of battery playing video

Model
Meta Quest 3, standalone: no cables, no computerWe chose the Quest 3 for image and battery, not price. Cheaper headsets, such as the Pico G3, have lower definition and shorter battery life.
Processor
Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, 8 GB of RAMCheaper or older headsets use previous-generation processors: less smooth playback of high-resolution video.
Storage
512 GB. The whole RVer library, close to 300 GB, lives on the headsetMany headsets used in healthcare have 128 or 256 GB. At 6 to 10 GB per scene, hundreds of real scenes at this quality do not fit.
Display
LCD, 2064 × 2208 pixels per eye, 120 HzCheaper headsets have fewer pixels per eye. In 360° video it shows: the image looks grainy.
Lenses
Pancake: sharp right to the edgesCheaper headsets use Fresnel lenses: the image loses sharpness away from the centre and shows ring-shaped glare.
Field of view
110° × 96°With a narrower field of view, it feels like looking through binoculars, and immersion is lost.
Tracking
6DoF: follows the head and the body, not just rotationThe headsets most used by competitors, such as the Pico G3, are 3DoF: they only follow head rotation. Leaning or moving the body does not change the image, which can cause discomfort.
Weight
515 gHeavier headsets, or ones with a battery hanging at the back, tire the neck in long sessions, especially for older people.
With glasses
Yes, no spacer. Pupil distance from 53 to 75 mmSome headsets cannot be worn over glasses and require prescription inserts bought separately, for each person.
Battery
2 h 40 playing video, measured by RVer. Optional external batteryThe Pico headsets used in healthcare are rated at about 2 h 30 of battery. The Quest 3 gives 2 h 40 playing video non-stop, measured by RVer, and easily passes 3 h in normal use.
Charging
USB-CCharges with a standard USB-C cable, no dock or special charger. A lost cable can be replaced in any shop.
In the kit
Headset, two controllers, washable silicone cover, case and chargerThe silicone cover wipes clean between people, or swaps out in seconds. Hygiene with no shared foam.

Scene library

Base product

VR scenes filmed by RVer, stored on the headset.

50VR scenes, and growing

Scenes
50, and the library keeps growing100% real, filmed in real places, which helps immersion. Many solutions use libraries made in computer graphics (CGI), or that are not 100% real.
Resolution
8K or more, up to 11KMany libraries stop at 4K. In 360°, those pixels spread all the way around; at 8K or more, what is in front of the person stays sharp.
Bitrate
60 Mbps or more: never less, in any sceneTo fit more videos on a small headset, it is common to compress them. With a lower bitrate, detail is lost and blocks appear in the image.
Size
6 to 10 GB per sceneDo the maths: a library of hundreds of scenes at this quality would take more than 1 TB. The headsets most used in healthcare have between 128 and 512 GB.
Sound
Ambisonic, recorded on locationWhen the person turns their head, the sound follows: the sea stays on the side of the sea. It helps them feel they are there.
Narration
7 languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Danish. Being extended to every sceneOther solutions usually have 4 languages at most.
Offline
Yes. The scenes are on the headset itselfSome solutions stream the videos from a tablet to the headset over Wi-Fi. On a weak network, the video stalls or drops in quality mid-session.
Production
In-house, filmed by RVerSome providers use third-party videos, even ones downloaded from YouTube: they were not filmed with clinical use in mind, nor licensed for commercial use. RVer films its own.
New scenes
Several a year, over the network, included in the serviceFew and good: we prefer scenes chosen with our clients to hundreds that only take up space on the headset.
Interactive
Ready for scenes with 3D objects you can grab and touchThe system is ready, and each experience is made to measure for the institution: 3D objects to grab inside real scenes.

App on the headset

Base product

What the person and the team use on the headset itself.

7languages on the headset

Library
Menu by category, suggestions and search by name, theme, mood or intentThe team finds the right scene in seconds, by what the person likes or what they need right then.
Player
Skip back and forward 10 s, repeat, moment markersMarkers save moments that mattered, like «the person smiled here», and any colleague can find them later.
Contraindications
With a person assigned, contraindicated content stays hidden and does not start without the clinician confirmingThe team does not have to remember what is not suitable for each person: the headset does.
Lying-down mode
For bedridden people, also on their side: the scene follows the headMany solutions assume the person is seated or standing. Lying down, the horizon tilts and the video is seen sideways.
Pause and breathe
A stop during a video with guided breathing; only the team opens and closes itIf the person becomes anxious, the team stops the video without removing the headset and guides their breathing until they settle.
Height
Menus and horizon at eye level, seated or standingOne long press puts everything at the right height, in a wheelchair, an armchair or standing.
Messages
Team messages in a bubble, over the sceneThe team talks to the person without breaking immersion: the message appears over the scene, and the video keeps playing.
Rest
Starts automatically after 10 minutes idle, or manually with the moon button. Never during a videoSaves about another hour of battery between sessions, and wakes with a button.
Languages
7, chosen on the headsetThe language changes menus, titles and narration at once. Other solutions usually stop at 4 languages.
Accessibility
Three text sizes, light or dark theme, large targetsDesigned for people aged 10 to 100: large text and large targets for those with poorer sight or movement.
Getting started
Video and 14-step tutorial the first time the headset starts. Replay it any time in RVer Pausa, for example when someone joins the teamUsually there is no training at all and, when there is, it is a single initial session. Here the guide lives on the headset, to replay whenever someone joins the team.

Companion app

Base product

The remote-control dashboard for the headsets. It opens in the browser of a laptop, tablet or phone on the same network. Nothing to install, no accounts.

No limiton headsets on one network

Control
Choose, play, pause and stop remotelyIt is common, but not every solution lets the clinician control the headset remotely.
Live view
See what the person sees, full screen or on a smart TVSome solutions show this too, but not all. Here you can see it full screen or on a smart TV in the room, with no cables.
Many headsets
Control all at once, or the same scene on several at the same moment. No fixed limit: the only limit is how many headsets the Wi-Fi can carryOther solutions limit control to 5 or 6 headsets at the same time.
Video call with family
The person talks to their family without taking the headset off: they see and hear them, and the family sees the person and what they are seeing. The family joins from a link, with nothing to install, using a code valid for one hourThe family can join the session from wherever they are, and the person shares with them what they are seeing.
People
Profiles with age and contraindications, stored on the headsetProfiles stay on the headset, not on a server. The name is optional; you can use a code chosen by the institution.
Clinical scales
Built in: NRS, Borg, SUDS, GAD-7 and MoCA. The team creates its own, with name, range and timing (start, end or both)The scales live in the same session log: the team needs no paper and no other software.
Mood
Before and after each session, with historyAfter a few sessions, you can see whether the person leaves feeling better than they came in.
Session log
By person, type and date; CSV and PDF exportEvery session is logged per person, on the headset, ready to export to the clinical record.
Playlists
Playlists, general or per personThe session starts with what is already known to work for that person.

RVer AI

Base product

Ranks the headset library by goal, with the evidence behind each suggestion. It suggests; the clinician always decides.

13goals

Where it runs
On the headset and in the Companion app. Nothing is sent or sharedAn AI assistant built to choose clinical content, running on the headset: nothing is sent out.
Evidence
One sentence and the level of evidence for each suggestion: meta-analysis, randomised trial, review…Every suggestion shows the published evidence behind it, so the team can make an informed decision.
Safety
Contraindicated content drops off the listSuggestions never override the contraindications recorded for the person.
Learns locally
From how the institution uses it, up to ±15%, never above the safety filtersWhat works in one institution moves up that institution's list. Nothing is shared with others.

RVer Motion

Module in development

Movement and physical rehabilitation. Counts repetitions and measures movement for the therapist. Enabled per headset.

30activities and exercises

Dose
Set by the clinician: targets, repetitions, rounds or minutesRVer grows with the institution: modules are switched on when needed, without changing system.
Measures
Range, reach, speed, left/right symmetry, cadence, smoothness of movementThe therapist does not just get game points: they get movement measures, session by session.
Seated balance
Stability area, maximum lean, sway, return errorMeasures that usually need dedicated equipment, taken with the headset while the person is seated.
Warnings
Shoulder, neck, cardiac, balance, vertigo: they warn, they do not blockThe clinician always decides. The warning is logged, so it is clear it was an informed choice.
Live
Counts and measures in the Companion app during the activityThe therapist follows the activity without having to ask the person how many they have done.

RVer Exposure

Module in development

Graded exposure environments, by level. Licensed per headset.

5levels

Time
Set by the clinician; the environment closes by itselfGraded exposure lives in the same system as the rest of the session. The level video repeats until the set time runs out.
Stopping
The person stops whenever they want, with a controller buttonThe person knows they can leave at any moment. That helps them accept the exposure.
SUDS
Before and after, optionalSUDS is the subjective units of distress scale, from 0 to 100, used in graded exposure.

Privacy and security

Included

0accounts, and nothing leaves the device

Accounts
None, neither on the headset nor in the Companion appSome platforms require accounts and keep the data in the provider's cloud.
Clinical data
Stay on the headset. Nothing leaves the deviceSome solutions keep clinical data in the cloud, outside the institution.
Access by RVer
None to the people's data: RVer cannot see what is on the headsetAs nothing leaves the headset, the people's data stay with the institution. No one at RVer has access to them.
Link to RVer
Only status, version and usage, identifying no oneRVer knows whether the headset is on, which version it runs and what gets used, never who used it.
Encryption
Encrypted local network (ChaCha20-Poly1305, X25519); stored data encryptedEven on the institution's own network, everything between the headset and the Companion app is encrypted.
Access
Pairing code, lock-out after repeated attempts, remote lockNo outsider can control the headset: the code is needed, and RVer can lock a lost headset.
Audit
90 days of team actions, with no person's nameIt records who did what and when, without storing the person's name.
Offline
Everything works on the local network, except the video call and updatesSome platforms depend on the network to work: if it fails, the session stops.

Service

Included

3working days, as a rule, to resolve

Equipment
RVer's. The institution does not buy itMany companies only sell the software: the institution buys the headset and handles maintenance and replacement. Few deliver everything turnkey, as RVer does.
Licence
One licence per site, headset included; extra headsets on topYou pay per headset, not per video, session or user, and each headset can be used 24 hours a day.
Preparation
Every headset tested, loaded and labelled before it shipsWith most solutions the headset arrives straight from the factory, or is not included at all, and the institution sets it up.
Delivery
As a rule about 2 weeks, in Portugal and the rest of EuropeBy courier, or installed by us, depending on location. Outside Europe, the lead time is agreed case by case.
Arrival
Ready to use. Connecting to Wi-Fi is optional: without it the headset works on its own; with it, you get the Companion app and updatesNo installation and no technician visit: switch the headset on and start.
Getting started
Every headset has an onboarding video that plays the first time it starts and can be replayed any time in RVer PausaWhoever joins the team learns on the headset itself, at their own pace.
Training
At installation, by video call or in person, depending on the case, on top of the guide on the headsetTraining is included, and the guide on the headset stays for whoever joins the team later.
Support
hi@rver.pt and WhatsApp. Resolved, as a rule, within 3 working daysYou talk to the team that makes RVer, not a call centre.
Replacement
Hardware fault: RVer replaces the headset as soon as stock allowsDamage caused by misuse is paid for by the institution, and the headset is replaced on payment. We do not promise lead times that depend on stock.
Warranty
For as long as the contract runs, everything works: hardware and softwareWhen the institution buys the headset, it only has the manufacturer's warranty, and the software is another matter.
Updates
App and scenes remotely, no site visitsNot every solution updates over the network. Here, the app and scenes arrive without anyone having to visit the institution.
Monitoring
RVer watches each headset's health and lets you know when one goes quietIf a headset goes quiet, RVer writes to the institution, without it having to notice the problem.
Who uses it
30+ institutions, in Portugal, Brazil and DenmarkHospitals, care homes, palliative care and clinics. We do not publish client names without permission.
