Snoezelen room

Also known as: multisensory room, SnoezelenIn Portuguese: Sala Snoezelen

Short definition

A Snoezelen room is a space for controlled multisensory stimulation, with light, sound, textures and scents, created in the Netherlands in the 1970s for people with intellectual disabilities.

In plain language

The name combines two Dutch words linked to «exploring» and «relaxing». The room has, for example, bubble tubes, fibre optics, projections and calm music, and the person explores at their own pace, accompanied. Today it is also used in dementia, autism and palliative care.
