Spatial audio

Also known as: 3D audio, binaural audioIn Portuguese: Áudio espacial

Short definition

Spatial audio is sound processed to appear to come from a specific direction and distance in the virtual environment, keeping that position when the person turns their head.

In plain language

It mimics the way the ears and head change sound depending on where it comes from. If a bird sings on the left and the person turns towards it, the sound then comes from in front. It contributes to the sense of presence and can direct attention, for example, to a point in the scene.
