Relaxation

Also known as: relaxation techniques, therapeutic relaxationIn Portuguese: Relaxamento

Short definition

Relaxation, in a clinical context, is the set of techniques aimed at lowering physical and mental arousal, such as slow breathing, progressive muscle relaxation or guided imagery.

In plain language

These techniques seek to counter the stress response: breathing slows, muscles loosen, the person feels calmer. They are used, for example, before a procedure, in managing anxiety or as part of other interventions, such as systematic desensitisation. Calm environments, with nature and soft sound, are often used as support.

In practice, in an RVer session

The 360° videos in the RVer library are filmed with a stable camera and no artificial locomotion, and sessions take place seated or lying down.
