Reminiscence therapy

Also known as: reminiscence, reminiscence workIn Portuguese: Terapia de reminiscência

Short definition

Reminiscence therapy is a psychosocial intervention that uses prompts such as photographs, music, objects or places to help a person recall and share memories and experiences from their life.

In plain language

It rests on the idea that remembering and telling one's own story has value for the person and for those who care for them. It is done individually or in groups and is widely used with older people, including people with dementia. An example: showing images of the person's home town or of a pilgrimage and talking about what they remember.

In practice, in an RVer session

360° videos make it possible to «return» to places that matter to the person. In the RVer library, Fátima is the most requested destination.
