Life story

Also known as: life story work, life story bookIn Portuguese: História de vida

Short definition

A life story is a record, made with the person and their family, of the path, relationships, places, occupations, likes and significant events of someone's life, used to personalise care.

In plain language

It may take the form of a book, a memory box or a form. It helps staff to know the person beyond the diagnosis, to talk about what interests them and to understand behaviour. It is especially useful in dementia, when the person can no longer tell their story on their own.
