Augmented reality

Also known as: ARIn Portuguese: Realidade aumentada

Short definition

Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that overlays digital images or information onto the view of the real world, without replacing it.

In plain language

In augmented reality, the person still sees the space around them, but with digital elements added, through a phone, a tablet or dedicated glasses. Unlike virtual reality, it does not isolate the person from their surroundings. A healthcare example is projecting instructions or anatomical models over a real object during a training session.
