Social isolation

In Portuguese: Isolamento social

Short definition

Social isolation is the objective situation of having few social contacts and relationships, or infrequent contact, with family, friends or the community.

In plain language

It is measured by the number and frequency of contacts, not by how the person feels; it is therefore distinct from loneliness, which is subjective. It is more likely in older people who live alone, have reduced mobility or live far from family, and also in people who are in hospital or in residential care. It is associated with poorer physical and mental health.

In practice, in an RVer session

RVer includes video calls with family, with no recording.
