ERPI (residential care home for older people)

Short definition

An ERPI (estrutura residencial para pessoas idosas, residential structure for older people) is the Portuguese social care service offering collective accommodation, temporary or permanent, to older people, with social support and care.

In plain language

It is the official name for what is commonly called a «lar» (care home). It includes accommodation, meals, hygiene and comfort care, help with daily activities, social activities and access to healthcare. In Portugal, many ERPI are run by IPSS and Misericórdias, with cooperation agreements with Social Security, and there are also private ones.

In practice, in an RVer session
