Day hospital

Also known as: day unit, day case unitIn Portuguese: Hospital de dia

Short definition

A day hospital is a form of hospital care in which the person receives treatment, procedures or follow-up during the day and returns home the same day, without staying overnight.

In plain language

It exists in several specialties, such as oncology (for example, for chemotherapy), haematology, psychiatry or paediatrics. It avoids hospital admissions and allows the person to keep living at home. Sessions can be long and repeated, which makes comfort and anxiety management during waiting and treatment relevant.
