Cybersickness

Also known as: VR sickness, virtual reality sicknessIn Portuguese: Cybersickness

Short definition

Cybersickness is the set of symptoms, such as nausea, dizziness, disorientation and eye strain, that some people experience during or after using virtual reality.

In plain language

It is similar to motion sickness and is often explained by a conflict between what the eyes see and what the inner ear senses. It is more likely when the image moves without the person moving, for example in videos filmed while in motion. It is usually measured with questionnaires such as the Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) and is one of the most studied adverse effects in VR trials.

In practice, in an RVer session

RVer videos are filmed with a steady camera and no artificial locomotion, and the team can pause or stop the session at any time from the Companion app.
