RVer Neuro: cognitive stimulation in Virtual Reality
Paper worksheets trigger disengagement and refusal. What if the activity that stimulates were also the one people want to repeat?
Paper worksheets work, but they carry a known cost: they are monotonous, they trigger disengagement and, often, refusal. The person feels they are being put to the test — and gives up. Cognitive stimulation ends up happening less often than the team would like.
RVer Neuro starts from a simple idea: what if the exercise were something people want to repeat?
Seven exercises, in a calm virtual room
The module brings together seven Virtual Reality activities across different cognitive domains:
- Number Trail — attention and set-shifting
- Block Sequence — working memory
- Focus Catch — sustained attention and impulse control
- Visual Search — selective attention and visual scanning
- Shape Match — spatial reasoning in 3D
- Shopping List — memory
- Spatial Memory — spatial memory and orientation
The patient controls each task with the two hand controllers and head movement. Immersion removes distractions from the room and makes the task engaging — which helps most with people who struggle to hold attention on a paper sheet.
Almost nothing depends on reading: the items are 3D objects.
An activity log, and a human decision
As the patient works through it, the session log streams live to the team's dashboard. No manual transcription, no waiting for the session to end.
What the log is, and is not. Activity counts and times — how many items, in how long, with what errors. There is no grading, no thresholds, no norms and no comparison against reference values. The module does not assess, grade or diagnose, and does not replace any clinical assessment. It is a stimulation and activity-logging aid, for wellbeing purposes.
Why Virtual Reality helps here
The difference is not the task itself — it is how the task is experienced. In a calm virtual room, without the competing stimuli of a real one, the person focuses on the activity rather than on their own performance. 3D mental rotation, for one, is only possible in a three-dimensional environment.
Difficulty is set by the team. Only Block Sequence adapts to the patient during the activity.
Local, private, integrated
RVer Neuro runs locally on the headset, with no cloud, and is enabled per device. It is part of the RVer platform, whose base product is a Class I Medical Device certified by Infarmed. RVer Neuro is a module in development, not covered by that registration. No patient data leaves the headset, which keeps everything under the institution's control and GDPR-compliant.
The Neuro module is in development, via clinical partnership.
RVer Neuro does not aim to replace any professional. It aims to give the team an activity people enjoy doing — and a record of what happened in the session, without the manual work.
