Virtual reality headset

Also known as: VR headset, VR goggles, HMD, head-mounted displayIn Portuguese: Óculos de realidade virtual

Short definition

A virtual reality headset is a head-worn device, with screens and lenses in front of the eyes and motion sensors, that presents a virtual environment to the wearer.

In plain language

Also called HMDs (head-mounted displays), they block the view of the surrounding space and show an image that changes with the movements of the head. They can run connected to a computer or be standalone. In a clinical context, factors such as weight, comfort during prolonged use, ease of cleaning and compatibility with prescription glasses matter.

In practice, in an RVer session

RVer Headsets are 512 GB Meta Quest 3 units, standalone, weighing 515 g; they can be worn over prescription glasses and come with a washable silicone cover.
