RNCCI (National Network for Integrated Continuing Care)

Short definition

The RNCCI (Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados) is the Portuguese public network, created in 2006, that provides healthcare and social support to people in a situation of dependency, for recovery, rehabilitation or maintenance.

In plain language

It was created by Decree-Law no. 101/2006 and involves the health and social security sectors. It operates through inpatient units (convalescence; medium-term and rehabilitation; long-term and maintenance), outpatient services and home care teams. It receives, for example, people discharged from hospital after a stroke who still need rehabilitation.
