Quality of life

Short definition

Quality of life is, according to the WHO, a person's perception of their position in life, in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live, and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns.

In plain language

It is a broad concept that includes physical health, psychological state, independence, social relationships and environment. In healthcare it is measured with validated questionnaires and is an important outcome especially when cure is not possible, as in chronic diseases, dementia or palliative care.
