Feasibility study
Short definition
A feasibility study is a study that assesses whether an intervention or a future study can be carried out in a given setting: whether participants take part, whether staff can deliver it and whether it is tolerated.
In plain language
It asks «can this be done here?» rather than «does this work?». It measures things such as recruitment rate, drop-outs, time required, acceptance by service users and staff, and unwanted effects. For example, a feasibility study might test whether people with dementia in a residential care home accept wearing virtual reality headsets and tolerate ten-minute sessions. Pilot studies are one type of feasibility study.
